Creating Rituals

I read recently that American Psychological Association’s Journal of Family Psychology published a study that linked a lifestyle rich in rituals to greater marital satisfaction, academic achievement, self-worth and stronger family bonds. Science shows how simple rituals around holidays, birthdays, chores, regular bedtimes, worship and family dinners are also linked to stronger immunity.

Rituals can be as simple as

  • blessing your meals

  • saying an affirmation upon rising

  • taking a mineral soak at the end of your week

  • lighting a candle while meditating

  • prayer to your ancestral altar

  • smudging your space

  • saying a mantra or prayer before you go to sleep

It can be anything that you routinely do to help you feel more content and complete. The act of ceremony and routine can make everything more meaningful.

What are some of your 2021 rituals?
