Authenticity Lives in the Body—Not the Mind
We often think of authenticity as a mental process—something we decide, define or declare.
But in my work as a somatic and embodiment coach, I’ve learned this truth:
Authenticity isn’t an idea. It’s a sensation.
Our bodies are always giving us cues—subtle, wise and often overlooked. A shift in breath. A flutter in the stomach. A tension in the shoulders. These aren’t random reactions. They’re messages. Invitations. Truth-tellers.
How many times have you:
Said yes when you meant no?
Smiled when you felt sadness?
Shrunk your voice to keep the peace?
Those moments leave residue. They add up. They create patterns.
The cost? Disconnection—from self, from presence, from power, from truth.
The Body’s Wisdom
Authenticity happens when our internal experience matches our external expression. But when we override the body—when we disconnect from the felt sense—we slip into performance.
This is why somatic awareness is so vital. When we bring our attention to the body, we reconnect with what’s real. We begin to notice where we’re holding back, where we’re pushing forward, and where we’re simply not listening.
An Invitation: Practice Pausing
Before your next big decision, difficult conversation or moment of doubt…
Pause. Place a hand on your body. Ask: What’s true for me right now? Then wait. Not for the “right” answer—but for the honest one.
Because your body isn’t just along for the ride. It’s holding the map.
Let’s remember to check in.
